Is Kitesurfing hard to learn?

If you want to compare it to other water/wind sports, kitesurfing is rather easier to learn. To add on, kitesurfing is also relatively easier to do than windsurfing. On top of that, kite surfers will also be and feel more advanced after their first year of experience. Another thing to consider is that kitesurfing schools make it sound easy. A strong coordination skillset is required in board riding while flying a kite. If you have good balancing skills, now would be a good time to use them.

How long does it take to learn?

Some people may think that it only takes a couple of days to learn but it actually all depends on how much of a fast learner you are. Learning this watersport can take up to somewhere around 6 to 12 hours. Once again, for some people, it may take less or more than the average time. You might feel like strong winds hold you back but it’s actually the other way around. Light winds are more likely to hold you back from learning as it requires you to be more technical with controlling the kite.

What wind speed is suitable for kitesurfing?

Normally, the average kitesurfer requires around 12mph/19kmph of wind speed to launch up and ride. Riders that are lighter(65lbs/30kg-187lbs/85kg) can kitesurf with less wind speed. However, the heavier riders(200lbs+/90kg+) may need about 15mph/24kmph of wind speed to launch properly.

Is it possible to teach yourself to kitesurf?

Kitesurfing can be quite a risky watersport, especially when you don’t know what you’re doing. Although it’s definitely possible to learn this watersport by yourself. You can start off by learning with a trainer kite. I recommend getting this trainer kite for learning this sport by yourself. Also, you must learn the basic steps of wind theory. The best kitesurfing kites for beginners would be the bow and delta kites to learn this watersport. This is mostly because of how easy it is for them to relaunch. Moreover, they have a wide wind range. In addition, these kites are very stable in the air. Therefore it makes it much easier to attempt in learning this watersport at first.
