Nowadays, types of mountain biking can be split into multiple categories. You’ve come to the right place if you’re looking to discover the types for MTB!

There are 3 basic kinds:

  • Cross country (XC)
  • All-mountain (Enduro)
  • Downhill (DH)

Cross country (XC)

What is cross country mountain biking?

Cross country (XCmountain biking is a form of mountain biking that is ridden on paths consisting of Forest paths, smooth roads, singletrack, and paved roads connecting trails. XC biking focuses more on endurance more rather than technical skills. It’s a riding style that continues to advance and develop.

How long is a XC MTB race?

Cross country races usually alter in length depending upon the sort of rider, usually from around 30 minutes for adolescent riders. Whereas for elders and elite riders it would take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Races are run on various laps of a cross country course.

All-Mountain (Enduro)

Downhill mountain biking(DH) is a kind of mountain biking style implemented on steep, rough terrain that generally includes jumps, drops, rock gardens and other obstacles. Bikes for downhill weigh more and are tougher than other mountain bikes and present front and rear suspension longer than 8 inches (20 cm) of travel, to flow quickly and smoothly over rough, mountainous terrain.

How does downhill racing work?

In competing races, riders either have a single or double attempt to reach the finish line as quick as possible. Downhill riders should pick their line by deciding between the shortest manageable line that can be ridden at maximum potential speed.
